Policy on Language to be Used While at
2008 Conference
The communication process that has been established for the FRID 2008 State
Conference is one that embraces the concepts of accessibility and individual
preferences while being practical and efficient.  We must remember that the great state
of Florida encompasses a wide range of cultural diversity which incorporates natural
variations in communication style.  Since the number of Deaf individuals that join FRID
and/or attend our conferences constantly increases, it is important to foster an
atmosphere that encourages all levels of interpreters to enthusiastically participate
throughout our program.  At the same time, we must remember that there may also be
visitors to the convention that do not sign at all.

As a result, the coordinators of this convention wish to encourage all attendees to
actively communicate unabashedly, utilizing whatever level of visual communication that
they are able.  We are certain that this effort will engender a feeling of welcome for this
year's attending members and create precedence for welcoming attitudes for many
years to follow.
