Laurelyn Upstill, EIE III, has been employed by the School District of Palm Beach County
as an educational interpreter in the elementary setting since 2000. Her lifelong exposure
to sign language, Deaf culture, interpreters, and the deaf community led her to
interpreting classes at Palm Beach Community College and a career in the field. She
has served as FRID EIE Chair, EIE greeter, sign language instructor for children’s
programs, FRID silent auction chair, and children’s activities coordinator for the district’s
parent program. She is a third generation interpreter and has developed a passion for
the field particularly in educational settings. She lives with her husband and seven year
old daughter, Abby.
