Dan Cook, CI, CT, OTC & NIC, is currently a staff interpreter for Sign Language Associates, Inc. (SLA) since 2004. Having been in the profession now since January of 1993, Dan is a seasoned professional in many areas of interpretation including education, VRS/VRI, medical, theatrical (mostly comedy), conference, and some legal settings. Having a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Dan has an affinity for working with newer/pre-certified interpreters and students on language development and interpretation skills. Including being a part of SLA Florida’s local Professional Development Committee (PDC), Dan has also traveled to present a number of workshops through SLA’s Professional Education Center (PEC) for the last two years.
Currently, I am serving as the President of BayFRID till the end of its term, which is in July of 2008. In the remaining time as President of this organization, I have pledged that I will do my best to improve our visibility as an organization to the community of deaf/hard of hearing individuals and interpreters, as well as to build connections and find ways to help the newer/pre-certified/student interpreter population bridge the gap from graduation to certification through mentorship opportunities.
